The Anointing of the Sick is a sacrament by which we ask the Lord to bring healing and peace to those who
are ill. For those who are dying, the sacrament of Anointing is one of three sacraments that the Church
urges the faithful to receive. The dying should also be absolved of their sings through Confession and
nourished with the Eucharist in Viaticum.
If you are in danger of death or in a true medial emergency, please call the
rectory any time day or night (309) 691-3602.
However, Anointing can be received by anyone who is ill but not in danger of death.
Any person who's health is at risk by a specific illness, hospital surgery, or old
age should receive Anointing. If you are ill or admitted to the hospital, please
contact the rectory to receive pastoral care.
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was enacted in 1996.
HIPAA protects employee's health insurance coverage, provides standards for electronic
health care transactions, and insures the privacy of your health data. As a result of
this legislation, hospitals have become very scrupulous in protecting the privacy of
your medical information. This means that no one, not even your parish priest, can be
notified that you are in the hospital unless your give your consent.
If you are admitted to the hospital, please inform the admission staff that you are a
Catholic member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish and that you would like your name to
appear on the list of Catholic patients to be visited by Catholic ministers. If you
have not been visited by a priest or Eucharistic minister, please contact the rectory
to notify us that you have been admitted to the hospital.
